The House of Quinta do Mosteiro in Ferreira, municipality of Paços de Ferreira.

The Quinta do Mosteiro de Ferreira is contemporary with the same Monastery - "This Church is a witness to the birth of our country, of Portugal, as it dates back to the 80s of the twelfth century. explained the parish priest, in an interview with the ECCLESIA.
Agency The farm and the monastery were owned by the order of the Augustinians
The origin of the Monastery of São Pedro de Ferreira, in Paços de Ferreira, dates back to the tenth century, being mentioned in the will of the powerful Countess Mumadona Dias, dated 959. This reference is one of the oldest documentary proofs of the existence of a religious temple in this place.

 Historical evolution
  • 11th-12th century: Construction of the first Romanesque church, of which few traces remain.
  • 1182: Beginning of the construction of the current church, with Romanesque elements that are still preserved today.
  • 13th century: Integration into the Order of Canons Regular of Saint Augustine, between 1258 and 1293.
  • 15th century: The monastery passes to the Bishop of Porto, no longer belonging to the canons.
  • Nineteenth century: With the extinction of the religious orders, the temple remains as a parish church, while the conventual dependencies are abandoned.
The law of compensation that extinguishes religious orders
The so-called Law of the Extinction of Religious Orders in Portugal was enacted in 1834, in the context of the liberal victory after the Portuguese Civil War (1828–1834). Although it is not formally known as the "compensation law", it included provisions that attempted to mitigate the effects of extinction for the religious affected.
Decree of May 28, 1834
  • Written by Joaquim António de Aguiar, Minister of Justice, and signed by D. Pedro IV.
  • It declared all convents, monasteries, colleges, hospices and regular religious houses extinct.
  • The assets of the orders were secularized and incorporated into the National Treasury.
Quinta do Mosteiro was thus sold to private individuals and has remained private property until today, having passed through a few hands. However, after the death of the so-called "girls of the Monastery", all single, it was in the possession of Mr. José Senra, who developed a textile factory on the grounds of the farm, which is now a locksmith factory.
José Senra´s heirs decided to sell the farm to the plots, leaving the Quinta do Mosteiro house that was acquired by Anabela Rodrigues Correia in the year 200
The house has been completely rebuilt and maintains the exterior appearance. But the interior is now a modern building with the required amenities, and the agricultural land has been reshaped by gardens where a swimming pool has been installed, maintaining the original threshing floor and the mine tank that served to water agricultural crops.
